Exploring infrastructure, security research, and applied mycology.

I am Jacob P Harris (aka hackatoa): Linux-first developer, cyber security tinkerer, and mycologist. This is my living portfolio and technical repository. I specialize in building robust infrastructure, exploring security hardening strategies, and documenting the intersections of code and natural systems.

Portfolio

Recent & favorite builds

A mix of infrastructure, tooling, and tinkering.

Hackatoa.com · main site

The volcanic-night home base: this portfolio, experiments, and links to the rest of the ecosystem. Features a custom CMS architecture for managing assets and content seamlessly via GitHub actions and Firebase hosting. Built with responsive, animated UI to provide a dark, modern experience.

Lab tooling & security notes

A rotating set of small tools, scripts, and write-ups for Linux, infra, and cyber security practice. Includes configurations for hardening environments, automating deployments, and documenting vulnerability research and mitigation strategies.

InfiniSweeper

An infinite, massively multiplayer Minesweeper game where players collectively uncover a global, never-ending board. Features real-time multiplayer cursors, chunk-based board generation, and seamless panning and zooming.

Mycology Tracking

Beyond digital infrastructure, I study mycology. This involves cultivating different species, refining sterile lab techniques, and mapping environmental data to fruiting triggers.

Mycology

Fungi & Spores

Tracking cultures, grows, and environmental data.

Beyond digital infrastructure, I study mycology. This involves cultivating different species, refining sterile lab techniques, and attempting to map environmental data points to fruiting triggers. It’s an organic counterpart to hacking—requiring patience, observation, and an understanding of complex natural networks.
